AVC Trading: Our history

AVC Trading was formed in 1997 as a joint venture between ICI Australia and Auseon, a fully owned subsidiary of Geon USA. Prior to 1997, ICI and Auseon were competitors. Both companies had been producing PVC resin and compound in Australia, dating back to the 1950s.

In 2004, AVC Trading fully acquired ModWood Technologies, Australia’s leading producer of wood-plastic composite products. In 2007 AVC Trading was purchased by Wesfarmers, one of Australia’s largest, oldest, most successful, and most diverse listed companies. AVC Trading was incorporated into Wesfarmers Chemicals, Energy & Fertilisers (WesCEF) division.

In 2016, AVC Trading ceased local manufacturing of PVC resin and moved to an import business model, retaining its position as the major supplier of PVC resin to the Australian market through our long-standing relationship with Formosa Plastics Corporation (FPC). Based in Taiwan, FPC is one of the largest producers of PVC resin in the world, with multiple production plants in Taiwan, China, and the United States.

A modern, diversified Australian success story

Today, AVC Trading has four thriving business units:

We are a leading supplier of polymers and additives to the Australian plastics industry, a manufacturer of wood-plastic composite products, and an innovator in sea freight.

Our Shipping Solutions business is backed by Wesfarmers, which has one of the largest sea freight contracts in Australia and moves more freight into Australia from Asia than any other Australian company. Our Shipping Solutions operation works with Australian companies who import containers from Asia to Australia on a regular shipping schedule.

Our relationship with Wesfarmers enables us to offer a premium niche ocean freight service that allows our clients to customise their entire supply chain. This is unique to AVC Trading and unmatched by most freight forwarding businesses.
