Resin Waste
Our key aims for waste management are to make sure any resin waste is:
• reused
• minimised
• recycled
• disposed of safely.
To help our customers use our products safely, AV issues the following guidelines for reducing resin waste.
Reuse of resin waste
At times, resin is spilt or mishandled before it is mixed or blended with other additives. Spilt or mishandled resin must be screened before it can be used for processing. Screening out contaminants protects both the processing equipment and the product quality. Provided that the resin is free of such contaminants it can readily be reused.
Screening may not always be practicable or feasible.
Minimise waste
The blending of the resin with the other additives that are required for processing PVC is a completely sealed process. Sealing prevents both loss of product and external contamination and, therefore, minimises waste.
The blended resin is typically sealed in a bag or silo before it is transferred to the next stage of processing. Waste from both the sealed blending and transferring stages of PVC processing is minimal.
Safe disposal
Waste resin that can not be reused is best disposed of by landfill. PVC resin is non hazardous and is inert under normal atmospheric conditions. Incineration of PVC resin is not recommended.
Recycling
PVC resin waste itself is not typically recycled. Products made from PVC resin are readily recyclable.
Waste product from the processing of PVC resin may be recycled provided it is not contaminated or thermally degraded. Contaminated or thermally degraded waste product is best disposed of by landfill.
