Plasticisers are added to PVC resin to give flexibility. Electric cable insulation, floor coverings, footwear and blood transfusion bags are applications in flexible PVC. Plasticisers are not used in rigid applications like pipe, conduit, guttering, light switches and bottles.
Internationally, industries, governments and regulatory bodies monitor the safe use of plasticisers, especially the group known as phthalate plasticisers.
