PVC demonstrates its versatility in the packaging market where it is used for both rigid containers and flexible packaging. Rigid packaging includes containers such as cordial bottles and strawberry punnets. Food wrap is a flexible packaging.
Flexible PVC has exceptionally good stretch and recovery characteristics as well as transparency. It is a preferred material for supermarket meat wrapping as the material's gas and moisture permeability allows oxygenation. This permeability prevents the discolouration and dehydration of fresh meat.
'Blister packs' commonly used for packaging pharmaceuticals are also fabricated from PVC.
