Local Business Recognised for Greenhouse Gas Abatement
Laverton company, Australian Vinyls Corporation Limited, has been presented an award for Outstanding Achievement in Greenhouse Gas Abatement from the Australian Greenhouse Office. The award recognises the company’s progress in significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions since joining the Greenhouse Challenge Plus Program in 2000.
The Greenhouse Challenge Plus Program is a voluntary agreement between the National Greenhouse Office and companies, where the companies report on energy saving initiatives and actual energy usage on an annual basis. Since joining the program in 2000, Australian Vinyls has achieved a 25% reduction in the tonnes of CO2e (equivalent carbon dioxide) emitted per tonne of Poly Vinyl Chloride (PVC) manufactured by the plant.
The company’s Risk Manager, Ms Trish Kerin, attended Parliament House in Canberra for the Award ceremony this month.
"This award is a credit to our employees, who have all actively contributed to energy saving ideas and initiatives over the last 5 years. The Australian Greenhouse Office's award acknowledges that effort."
